These Things I Would Do

A Poem by R. L. Ives

If I could paint your dreams for you
I would beseech the angels in heaven above
to sing for me a pallet of colors
never before glimpsed by the eyes of man,
And your heart would be the canvas
upon which your dreams would come true.

If I could but design and craft happiness for you
I would use the tools of love and kindness
sent to me from the greatest architects to ever live
and never a day would pass
where heartache and sadness were felt.

If I could rewrite your life for you
I would become a disciple of the most prolific writers the world has ever known,
and master the language of peace, contentment and joy,
to give you a life free from torment.

For I know you have been shackled to the demons of the past.

If only I could.
