Left Behind

Left Behind

A Poem by rlb

Following the long slick road into the golden horizon,
With all the nameless faces flying next to us
just trying to get home,
We're switching the buzz of a dull life with freedom to roam,
and for the first time in a long time

We're looking ahead for more
leaving the others behind,
Changing paths this time,
New place, new stories, new rhyme.

The twilight swallows the skyline, still too close to home,
Countless bridges the only sign of progress
running along white lines,
But I've got my friends at my back, fear of no kind,
and for the first time in a long time

We're looking around for more
the others are nowhere near,
On a new path this time,
Tires on the road are all we hear.

There's something we all see in the foggy vision of dreams,
We chase and end up far away in the clouds,
But the thrill gets worn out
And I look back home to her, desiring the shortest route,
and for the first time in a long time

I'm looking back for love,
Hoping she still remembers
adventures of a past time;
Part of my mind is left behind.
