Pelican Lake

Pelican Lake

A Poem by rlb

Waxing light pierces the surface of the glass,
Deep, solid, crystal clear,
Daytime creeping along slowly
like a shimmering hand reaching out to the world,
This one time, as everything lay calm and still
the world becomes foreign and beautiful,
These precious moments of serenity
more innately sacred than any relic
fill the soul with a unique, complete contentment
and can be found nowhere else,
The moments flee without hesitation
for fear they might be stuck there forever,
Glass shatters into a million pieces, churning,
The light continues to grow
offering an idea of warmth as it tries to pierce the chaos
but the shallowness of the world is too deep
and light only passes through some before it is distorted and lost.
