What Christmas is All About

What Christmas is All About

A Poem by Robert Kennedy Mitchell
"

A lighthearted look at the stress that comes with the season and what it is really all about.

"

They’ve bought gifts to show off their clout,
next will be stress and the need to clean all the mess,
is that what Christmas is all about?

The toys clanging, zooming, and talking,
in his chair dad's trying not to pull out his hair,
feet still tired from trips to the mall with all the walking.

The Christmas stockings full of sweets,
should’ve said no more to helping four,
who can refuse Christmas treats?

Mom's fixing hair, straightening collars,
the kids crying, picture time is trying,
“Listen to mom!” dad hollers.

Dad thinks 'I’ve got to get out',
despite the anger thoughts turn to the manger,
and he remembers what Christmas is all about.

We celebrate God’s willingness to make a way,
it wasn't a stranger in the manger,
our Lord Jesus was born on Christmas Day.
