The Gifts of God

When we celebrate the Eucharist, we ask in the Eucharistic prayer for the Holy Spirit to come upon “these gifts.”

Often I have, in my own limited thought reduced “these gifts” to the bread and the wine. But this morning the Holy Spirit showed me that “these gifts” refer to all of us assembled to receive the Eucharist.

“These gifts” do not merely refer to the bread and wine being offered, but “these gifts” refer to the one doing the offering, and to all those receiving the offering. Each of us together are “This gifts”! All of us! All of us are “the gifts of God for the people of God” and all has been made ready!
