The Castle

The Castle

A Story by Dorita

  The Castle

Along the banks of a river I run. I stop by a clearing in the trees. I stand there, and see a large tall castle. It's stretching up to the sky, and it makes me want to go there, and cross over the draw bridge. It seems like a safe place to live. I walk up to the castle, and stop to look up. Here the castle is even taller. I cross over the bridge leading to a large gate to a fence surrounding the castle.
I have been here so many times, and yet I have returned. I try walking along the bridge to the castle when I slip and fall into the water. I make my way back to this bridge, and walk across. I then come to the large tall wall to the fence. I walk through the doorway, and this time I make it to the doorway to the castle. Now a dog comes and barks at me. I run to the barn, and wonder if I'll ever make it to the castle. I walk up to the door when the dog is gone, and I knock on the door. A man comes to the door and smiles at me, "I've been expecting you and what took you so long?"
"I slipped off the bridge leading here," was my first excuse.
"And then what?"
"Then a dog came and barked at me and I got scared and ran into the barn."
"Then what?"
"Then I finally came to the door."
"I've missed you but I understand there was a lot of distractions to you coming sooner to spend some time with your dad."
I smile and then walk inside his place and we have supper together. We now walk in a peaceful garden and I ask him. "Why are you so okay with me not always spending time with you?"
He looks at me and then wipes away a falling tear from my face, "I'm not, but I am patient with you, and I know that despite the distractions of life, you will come back and spend time with me again. Your dad."
I smile now and then we sit by the garden and look at all the flowers. I know that here I am safe and loved, with my dad, who loves me and I know that I am sorry for ever staying away, and having a dog as an excuse for not coming sooner.

1 Corinthians 8:6. "yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him."

I really like this one despite being simple. You've told the story in a flow. Though at first it seemed that you haven't ever been able to be in that castle. Apart from that, I, myself, live in a city far from my hometown, my parents are with me, but I still miss those people and I too make excuses for not going back there. I can relate a lot.
Thanks for the read
