Nature AbbreviatedA Poem by Marissa MadridA hike through Cheyenne CanonNature Abbreviated
I moved about a path of nowhere, knowing no one. I found it to be a place of comfort while most others passed and conscientiously ignored it.
Vanishing from existence in the eyes of others; emerging into a state made of supple intonation and cantation contrived for the benevolent spirit.
Our sky's highest in fahrenheit star warms all that it reaches. An aria of a sweet sparrow, hum of the hovering bee, and breeze in the blades of grass.
Rain came and left sage imbued within the ground, in bark of trees, and in each strand of my hair. All is greener and I sip the moisture of infinite particles on the surface of my being.
My fingers pried into rock and legs pushed me to the rigid coarse top of a boulder. Here above, crashing water in layers of sparkling dances in mist, drops, and occasional floating twigs navigate to the sea.
A thorn of the leafless rosebush rakes into my skin, with a drop of blood fallen to a crisp dried yellow blanket, crackling beneath my feet. At the sight of red paint on the earthen canvas my heart beats faster- recognizing affinity between specie of human and plant.
Shadows commence to lurk with reticent energy, coming to day's end. Twilight whispers of the eight hours, seeming as an ephemeral contentment. Adieu my mother of earth, keeper of animals, and all I treasure when I'm with you.
Spun out into a vortex of a place unheard of. Light flashes every time I close my eyes to abrupt sounds, piercing my ears. © 2009 Marissa MadridAuthor's Note
