Let's grow

Let's grow

A Poem by Christopher Ross Livingstone

Let's grow by Christopher Ross Livingstone
The year that made us stop
Taught us we were always moving
Never slowing and always doing
And forever going
Caught up in cycles of the 24/7 culture
Existing in expectations,
As consumers consuming
We've all been taught not to stop
But to be on the go
All that going
Keeping busy
Without a thought in thinking
Avoiding expressions in expressing
Always sensing but always going
But never checking
Just to check in
No wonder at times
We've felt like s**t
The year that made us stop
Gave to us time to check in
Clocks striking still upon the hour
And the raising of an awareness
Sensing every season
Being present in a daily motion
Allowing the motion of emotions
Just be
Without supressing them in the expectations in a 24/7 culture
No wonder we were never growing
Let's get up and go
Pay those bills
And work for less that you're worth
Because the systems says so
Work till you drop
You can rest when you die
And you miss the simple things in life
I say it's time to stop
Stop going
On the constant go
But it's your time to grow

Years ago, the culture you describe here was called the "rat race." Unfortunately, the rats haven't slowed down, only ingested more caffeine.
