Community and connectionA Poem by Christopher Ross Livingstone
Community and connection
Christmas is upon us once more But these days We've been faced with coronavirus And in turn we can't meet face to face How the hearts have missed a beat As we've all missed each other Christmas this year is different But the festive consumeristic flare is alive more than eve It makes me think about where we are at. The pandemic has altered lives and in personal histories I feel for people who can't participate in the capitalistic games For the lack of money Or those who are lonely in isolation This year has taught us valuable lessons Those who have been there To care and support In the times of need It's now more than ever Where we look around to what's important The machine has got us caught up in a trap To buy and consume What's in a label? What price is that in all the wants and desires But we never ask ourselves What do we need? I believe in the value of community I feel that community and connection Will bring us back to love and understanding Instead of separation With labels and the worth of what's in the bank
