Solitude

Solitude

A Poem by Christopher Ross Livingstone

Solitude
How still has it become?
The vast space and stillness
All inside the known of
Solitude
How far I have travelled
In only to run from myself
Away from personal histories
And struggles to accept all I am
Avoiding any form in solitude
In that escaping grew a pain
And shame
Walking through life aimlessly
Times were tested
Loved ones lost
And in my name
I knew I wanted change
And a rapid transformation
To know the feeling of solitude
And her grace
You need to deep within
I knew for changes to rise
A nurturing environment had to be my foundation
Connected to relationships who fostered it
Rather than being surrounded by ones who'd strip you down
Times were right
My echoing heart said unto me
I dare you now
Emerging from a space of pain
I grew from a cultivated peace known as,
Solace and solitude

Makes me think of T.S. Eliot's comment in "The Wasteland" about eventually arriving at the place where we started and knowing it for the first time. Sometimes the journey involves mistakes and suffering, but when we come to accept solace and solitude, our searching will have started to end.
