In the name of the label

In the name of the label

A Poem by Christopher Ross Livingstone

In the name of the label
Labels,
Helpful or not?
They define and preconceive
And give to us meanings
Upon how we see ourselves
And who we are in the world
All in the name of the labels
Living in the time of labels
In turn,
We are seen
Not as ourselves
But as a label
Sometimes ones we assign to ourselves
But often by others
And their stereotypes
In the name of the labels
Labels
Are like copies
A reproduction,
Over time
Looses its meaning
Without knowing living
But as a lived expression
We must ask
In name of labels
Do they serve us well?
Our lives are deeper
Pulsing hearts beat out meaning
And never lived
Our authenticity
Woven through a rich tapestry
Are in the name of the label
Often ignored
Never displayed
Our lives are more than a mere labels
And in turn
Each other
