really crucial

Trouble seems to follow writer's block around, if you will. Or even if you won't.

 

sitting and wondering why my pen

(all right, keyboard)

forgot all of the really

crucial ideas and

words I’d thought about;

‘doubt became the operative

plea, cloak of dark

a finite cause

for wishing for a fix…

a spark.

Hi Dan, you have to trust you have the gift of writing and inspiration comes when you look away. What I do is I put some embryonic ideas, sentences on paper and then I wait and walk around a couple of days, sometimes multiple weeks. And the ideas take more form, sometimes they change. But they grow into something I can believe in. Then the writing comes.

What I mean is, it seems my subconscious needs time to look at these ideas and feed them, nurture them, add motivation to them. Does that make any sense at all ?

I just finished a class on this. Ariel Gore's book addresses it well along with Bane and Lisa Cron. Bane goes into the most detail about how our brain works and what happens during these periods of freezing up. After reading about it, I truly don't believe in it. IF you try writing prompts, you will move past it--even if it is a slow process.
