Fear of the future, fear of death, all go down to the same root... We don't fear the future, or whatever else...We're actually afraid of the unknown beneath it all. New events, new choices, new possibilities ... All unknown, until they hit us in the face. So with reason, we keep "trying " to "figure out" what 'COULD ' happen, or come our way. Nice work my friend.

What my main point was, abstractly, that there is really no good reason to celebrate New Year's Day. My reasoning was that each new instance, instantly brings change and there are millions of instants in each and every day. The fact that we may not, or probably not, notice any change instantly, it happens anyway. Kind of like one of my own favorite quotes from a write many years ago, "Well I've never been to Japan but I know it's there."
Thanks for the great analysis in your review. take care...dan

I actually don't know how, when and why it was shortened to Dan (because I always LIKED being called Danny) but no one has called me Danny for at least 25 years (my ex-wife was the last one). Weird, huh? take care...dan

Heh. the little changes that almost go completely unnoticed eh? lol.
A new year brings new thoughts, feelings and fears.
I love your use of orchestral imagery to illustrate the voices and fears in our mind.
Brilliant, as always.

Very thought-provoking, Dan and very different from what one generally comes across.
I particularly am enthralled with your conception of "newness" in terms of sensation, rather than being perceived through a scale of temporality. The randomness, the suddenness and the effectiveness of unpracticed spontaneity of emotion and thinking is underscored sensibly in your poem.
It made me go back to it a second time.
Almost like tasting a vintage bottle of Perrier-Jouët, this poetic- experience was.
Best,
M.

You managed to capture the essence of the write, or should I say it captured you? I've never tasted Perrier-Jouet, so I feel a bit culturally deprived, but I sense the complimentary nature of the reference. Thank you so much for your kind words. take care...dan
This is a profound write with such emotion. Newness can be found in each morning.

My point was to make it clear that my belief is that it is ludicrous to put so much emphasis on one day only, New Year's Day. Each instant leads us down a potential path of new discoveries. Thank you for your wonderful review. take care...dan
Every thought can be thought new, even those we revisit may be done do in a slightly different way. Every moment is new. Every one an opportunity to do something different. New year or mid year. It really doesn't matter. Now newness and originality, those are treo different things, but I find that every year is original despite the sameness of routines. Something unexpected always comes along.

And THAT doesn't need a special day to celebrate each new revelation. Thanks so much for the insight; hopefully yours and Otto's year will be special and memorable for all the right reasons. take care...dan

It's good for a new year to keep positive thoughts but it is true that you need to keep in mind that bad things will happen as well. There is no such thing as a flawless year because there are always those bad days that come out of nowhere. Great work Dan :)

Everyday is a new day.
"Voices merged like massive choirs,
Wond’ring why they can’t
Convince each other how to handle each
Mysterious instant."
I like song and the words above. I believe a open mind and heart can survive. I enjoyed the poem. You made me think tonight. Thank you Dan for sharing the excellent poetry.
