Just sitting here. in my office (?) listening to John & Yoko's "Double Fantasy" CD, specifically "Watching the Wheels." Just exercising my right to skip the candy some days, only to focus on the meat and potatoes, which in this case is the genius of John Lennon, singing songs wit Yoko that reach for my heart almost violently. When these day occur I feel honored that my life allows me certain days that I grab my thesaurus to look for words that are synonymous with "really, truly lazy." And when I find these words I have to unfold the pamphlet that contains the instructions. Which I read, put in my who gives a rat's...oh, whatever they have...alright?
I've never written this kind of monologue on WC...if I get any more long-winded this will officially be classified as a blog, which (you know) is way too much of a commitment that I'm just not prone to sign on for. But I really want to talk about a band that I think it the best ever (my opinion, my soul) to have been drawn into their army forever. The band is called "Rush." Again, my opinion and the rest of you who think any other...wait a minute....I have to put a Rush album on...how about "2112?" How about "Caress of Steel?" Now the easiest way to describe their lineup than this: The have a bass player, Geddy Lee (one of the greatest bassists and leaf vocals) plays rhythm bass and LEAD bass. Their drummer (who is considered by many the greatest rock drummer of all time) is Neil Peart, who plays rhythm percussion and LEAD percussion (with about 10 pipes and kettle drums and bells and other really cool things to hit). The guitar player, Alex Lifeson, is looked up to by so many present-day guitarists; aspiring rock guitar players who want to shred the fret board all use, as a measuring stick, their ability to accurately play exactly the right switches in volume, different time signatures (that might be wrong....hey, give me a break, alright? Geez....
I'm putting on Rush's "Caress of Steal," a CD filled with all types of rock from acoustic melodic whispers...to metal that could have been used as the foundation to your homes. Not that I'm saying anything is wrong with the foundations to your homes...you probably knew that already...didn't ya? Anyway, time is crawling by as I'm laboring, sweaty work, trying to write something that explains the sedentary posture I've been encouraged to adopt (not for one second do I want anyone to feel sorry for me...hey I'm just writing this, who knows if any of it is true ?(Some of this diatribe very well could smell like fish)I like using these brackets...what?...oh, parentheses)
I just was startled by a very heavy and incessant (a word I used in one of ny last writes) banging at the door!...I obviously thought, due to the decibel level that it may have been The Department of Homeland Security. And it all turned into a satirical day. Do any of you like satire.
You probably hate yourself for wasting so much time on something you maybe thought was a lot more promising to follow, then you turned you motivation for continuing to reading is to see if dan is derailing or just writing a little less coherent than he usually is? But unless you have a warrant you will never know the answer to that...yes the end to this write is coming like, right now...OK? I want to stop the silliness, devote my every notion to this part.
In the past few months Dee and I have been having some health problems. The fact I wrote about it actually started a little....tiff, shall we say? She didn't want me to put our private stuff out there...in the Internet Meteor Shower, the probable successor toe the Cloud...and we settled it very socially. She knows that it's good for me to write about stuff because she knows that I'm a fake poet with a lot of great friends.
I want to thank all of you who have buttresses us, buoyed us up...anyone who hasn't noticed that I am emotional should have noticed by now. (I guess I SHOULD have gotten that tattoo) would have to write, because I have another family here on WC. The support supplied by all of you....so MANY of you....can never be repaid. And I know...none of you would ever expect that. Dee and I love our Writers Café family.
I was snagged by this when I saw mention of classic rock artists in the first line. I read on and determined that we share the same taste and enthusiasm for this kind of music, and possibly some other things. For me, it's an enjoyable read.

Hello Dan :) I grew up with Rush. Love them, specially instrumentally. So many of their best songs never made radio. Seen them in concert, hell of a show! By Tor and the Snow dog, Cygnus, 2112, coming to mind here. So much going on in our own little worlds and the world at large, but I have kept you and yours in my thoughts. The love you and Dee have will grow stronger...deeper, of this I am sure. I love that you just wanted to chill...breathe, and simply connect. I feel you, Dan, and enjoyed reading your thoughts. Stay strong, my friend!

I used to have a website (back in 1996, when you were probably a toddler at the most...no such thing as blogs back then) called "The Sensitive Guy." I used to post things like this, a regular feature, called "Word Salad." And I'd just kinda ramble, stream of consciousness type bumbling and stumbling...and I used to get a TON of email response to them. Here? It has only received about 6 or 7 reviews. But that's OK, I wrote it to temporarily unload my mind for a minute. I appreciate the review and the kind words. take care...dan

And Geocities websites were not in use when you came of age to use the Internet. So I hope I didn't offend you with my guess. Yeah, the site was fun to keep up. I did satirical mock-interviews with celebrities, published my poetry...just random stuff my slightly warped mind would come up with. BTW, just so you know, I'm 58 yo. That's another reason why my thought on your age back then was toddler. take caer...dan

And I thought I'd be listening to Rush with this blog...oh I forgot it's a diatribe...lol. You know no thanks are needed from this corner of the Cafe. But I think I enjoy your little narrative as much as your pretty and messages. I'll be asking for return support as payment shortly. Next surgery is sooner rather than later; within the next few weeks. It feels never-ending.
Btw-Automan doesn't like Rush at all, but I do. They may not make my personal top 5, but I have several of their songs on my playlist...most famous person I ever talked to: Robert Plant. Sat in a seat beside him from Dallas to Oklahoma City when I was about 11. I had no idea who he was at the time, but hide gave me a CD to listen to. I have it to a friend when I landed. I still laugh when I think about it. He wasn't George Strait, Don Henley, or one of the Bee Gees so who cared? Lol.
Give Dee a hug from me, and tell her this family cares when there are health problems. I may only have a.prayer and a few words with a smile, but they are yours whenever you need them.

Yeah, when I started that little monologue I really was flying by the seat of my pants...just wanted to do a sort of stream of consciousness thing. Never really intended to do a paen extolling Rush's excellence, just wanted to let words flow in a sort of satirical 'rant,' exposing my slightly-bent sense of humor. But I did want it to lead into my thank you bit. I know you say that it was nothing, no thanks necessary but I felt that it was very necessary to spell out how all of the WC support helped us...when Dee was inpatient I would print out and read the comments to her, a big-time jolt of support. And I do wish you and Automan all the luck and medical care, all the best. Prayers are signed sealed delivered, no postage due. Please keep me posted. take care...dan

Dan, I just read this planning on a "critique" or "review" as you would have it. But then I saw it isn't that kind of piece at all, but it is a beautiful piece. I enjoyed your sardonic humor and of course I could sense a bit of pathos behind it. I do hope that your health is improving as well as Dee's. It is wonderful how writers can find each other on this site and provide support not only for writing but for life.

Dan, your family here includes many who have days similar to yours, and just as good taste in music:Rush is awesome...a great Canadian band...the only issue I have with Rush is that it cannot be enjoyed unless cranked and my ears are far too sensitive, so, I have to get by with the volume turned down...i've had a lot of days like this and I am thankful for having space to enjoy them and friends here, like yourself, with whom i can share them with...writing is a must for many of us, my friend, and i am happy to hear that you and Dee have a social understanding :) ...all the best, Thomas

I wasn't too sure if this type of writing would draw a lot of response and was correct in assuming it would not. It's a little off the beaten path as far as WC writings go; it may seem to many others to be a bit too self-indulgent...but I was just putting my thoughts out there, a way of asking readers, "Can we talk?" I knew however that some good friends would wish to respond to it and that is bearing fruit now also. Thanks again, Thomas. take care...dan

Just read this. I feel for you and your wife. I don't know all the particulars but it sounds like you have had a rough go of it. Praying for you both.
As for the music, I have to say I mainly listen to country. I was raised on it (yes, the old twangy stuff .. my Dad listened to it all the time!) and it's just in my blood. That's not to say I didn't rebel a little back in high school and listen to other things though! My daughter-in-law's father is a MAJOR Rush fan! Anyone who talks to him more than 3 seconds will know that. I think he and you would get along great!
