In Again

In Again

A Poem by dan
"

A broken heart sings sad songs for a love in pain.

"

The clock moving slowly,

Appointed hours approach through muddy time,

My frantic morning routine, painted red.

Tumbling toward the car

Just to see her.

She wears a mask of breathing tubes,

Poked with intravenous junkie needles

And her bed rings loud bells if she tries to

Escape

To head for the bathroom,

Urgent.

Small talk designed to avoid THE talk,

I diligently fish around for wash cloths and

Ginger ale and prayers,

Just to appear busy and engaged

While she naps in a bed, not hers…

The authorities yell that hours are past

And I wake her to hug her,

Walk to the car shedding

One tear/per minute.

people destroy themselves, and all we can do is be there for them....we can't save them...but when they are so close to us, we feel the pain of the addiction and the rehab as much as they.
