I love this Dan. The message is great, but the way your portrayed it in your writing is even better. I love that you start with 'lies' before 'truth' in the line 5. Your normally hear truth and lies, so it made me pause at that line, giving it more meaning. Very beautiful, well done!

Man I heard this one loud and clear. I think a lot of us react and experience an emotion then want to make decisions based on that... it is hard because you know your not thinking perfectly clear but yet you want a decision to be made so it's done with. Grim decisions are best made when calm and thinking clear... now remind me I said that next time I'm making a reaction decision lol... awesome write buddy I enjoyed this one!

No problem... send me any you want me to look at... I appreciate it and get better buddy!
This is so true for everyone reading it, whether they believe it or not. I'm told often by my boyfriend that I need to make sure that I'm completely calm before making any decision or they will be rash and in the heat of the moment, and I will regret them later. I have this problem but I've learned to live with it. I'm really surprised there isn't a song attached to this. I've learned to expect videos with your poems and now that there isn't one with this, I miss it :) Thanks for the read request :)

Yes I realize that it's a delicate balance; it's probably best to consider all alternatives while keeping in mind your first thought or reaction. Thanks for the great review (and I was just too lazy to try to think of a song that would support the poem's meaning) take care...dan
Yes, moods can certainly affect choices and it is most difficult to look past them when a grim decision has to be made. Sometimes I find it is always best to go with your first instinct, however, rushing a decision without having time to consider its impact can also be devastating if it is the wrong one. Unfortunately, as humans we find it impossible to turn off emotions when making tough choices. In that light your opening question in the description line is more than apt! A great write, Dan!

My dad wasn't one of those dads who always doled out words of wisdom (he taught us by example) but I remember his telling me to trust my first thought on a matter, that it is more likely to be the correct way than if over-analyzed. Thanks once again for your very perceptive review. take care...dan
there is a certain beauty in things that are dark and grim. If you dwell there long enough you can spot the truth from a mile off. In order to appreciate the light you have to experience the darkness i.e things that are grim. life is truly a balancing act, a scale.

Maybe because I took a bit more interest in your work before your health problems...s**t, I was one of your biggest fans. (I even called you 'dread-head once!) I envy those younger than I am simply for the freedom of wearing your hair any way you want to without a second glance. I always wore my hair long, especially when short came back into vogue, and shorter when long was in. Now I'm 58 years old with a gelled-up spiked look on top with a mullet in the back and f**k whoever doesn't like it! If I could start out young again I would either go dreadlocks or dyed black with a goth lifestyle. (Now you're probably going to tell my you're 10 years younger than me and make me feel like a total misguided a*****e!) So how's your health? Tell me your horror stories and I'll tell you mine? Glad to know at least you are back on WC so I can continue my role as president of the Rico X Fan Club. take care, sir...dan
Dan this is exquisite work! One of your best poems! I love your word choices and the overall power of the message is concise and extremely well done. The choice is ours all- ways...
Thank you for sharing this wonderful inspiring poetry.

I like the placement of exclamations
Sign of being puzzled and in search
Eventually searching lead to truth
And confusion leads to decisiveness
That's life
I enjoyed this one
