a friendship remembered

when a friendship from the past skips joyfully across the landscape of our memories

far removed from a past I will always remember,

a flame dying down to a warm, glowing ember;

to imagine a future in which I never am helpless,

and my ego is checked, my demeanor is selfless.

 

where a friend is not fleeting, around evermore,

a mighty companionship that rings so sincere.

in a picturesque dream state, a scene to adore,

so delightful together, the urge to endear.

 

a friendship like fortune, too rich to define,

which treasure is yours, which treasure is mine?

we are never too busy to extend each a hand,

we huddle together and help each to stand.

Friendships are often like this: cemented in the past while their embers burn low. I keep in touch with a handful of high school friends but you are right, Dan, it's never the same as it was. The things we share with those in the past remain there when we are separated by distance but it doesn't stop the flood of emotions associated with old photos and memories. A nice penning sir!

FT, I also am in touch with a very few high school friends, but when we talk we mostly talk about way back when. A few words about kids and grandkids but mostly high school football games, proms and homecoming dances. I seem to have more memory of back then than I do last week! This is super sweet. I had a friendship like this before. My best friend from college, but she passed away a couple years ago now. I miss her so much. Having a relationship like this is beyond anything you can imagine and so satisfying. Thanks for sharing Dan :)

ms, This was inspired by a quick look through my high school yearbook, saw an old friend I've lost track of and remembered feelings (platonic) we had with each other. Times, and laughs, shared and remembered. Thank you for your thoughts on the topic. take care...dan

You've nicely gathered all the drops / moments of your past - memories in words. Friendship's one of the many things that's not meant to be 'forgotten'.
