I liked this a lot. I've been there before, too and it's not fun. What makes it better for me is that I've always loved the song Torn and it fits so well with your poem. I was singing and bobbing my head along with the music while reading through the poem. It was a wonderful experience for me. The message in your work is so true to everyone. When do we go from being strong to being torn? Thanks for sharing this with me Dan, I loved reading it :) Great work!!!

But time has a way of eroding those walls, washing away the impediments to falling in love again. I'm so happy that you liked this poem; I sort of had your situation (as you have told me) in mind, as I think that maybe your boyfriend/potential fiancée is still chipping away at his own walls and barriers. Thanks so much for the read/review and good luck! take care...dan

Dan, I cannot agree with you more. It is true, love can really destroy barriers and walls and solve riddles. Only love can do that. Only love has the power to make as well as break. Glad to see an optimistic poem from you side. (I shouldn't be really saying that cause all of mine sound depressed, but still :P)
Take care Dan. You are an amazing writer. Keep going :D

I am about to repost one that I posted shortly after I came to WC. It's about my very best friend, who (years ago) passed away at the age of 29, it's called Marty (Then and Gone). I will be sending you an RR. And I'm happy to receive your input on "strong or torn?" Anyone who has had love go wrong has to recall the courage it took to be willing to take a chance on being hurt again by getting back into a loving relationship. Thank you so much for your insightful input. take care...dan
"the weight of our resolve can solve the riddles of the walls" Excellent verse, excellent poem, thank you for sharing.

Pain and fear are steely walls built for self preservation but love is like the river that carves canyons out of rock and steel walls turn to rust. I like all the meat in your pot of soup :)

Steely Dan, steely writing.
I was minded of the adage 'Faint heart never won fair lady' as I traversed this poem - and yet I came to the conclusion (purely personal) sadly there must be a time when the effort is too much (for both) and that's when the adage falls down while the walls remain standing. Thats the 'torn' time then I guess.
This resonated deeply with me this afternoon Dan.
Im glad to have read this. Thank you.

The dog was called Tyson, yes thats right, mate. He's been dead for 8 months now but still here (touches heart) - in spirit - thanks Dan - God Bless
:)
I love it dan and it is so very true. Your wording is amazing: I especially like recall such bones of barriers rocked & locked - it's all great writing. The last stanza really pulls it all together. Love is such a mystery: great metaphors and descriptions. Thank you so very much! Dale
