An Angel Rode with HerA Story by dantrue story about the night my wife dodged Death, with help from an angel, delivering a miracleAn Angel Rode with Her
On a long-darkened evening with skies crisp and clear, The glare from one’s high-beams exposed a young deer. The young deer was lucky and scurried to safety; This happened quite often, though not so much lately. When another one’s high-beams flashed brightly again My love’s vision, impaired, caused confusion, and then The impact came loudly and spun her car ‘round; When the spinning was over she lay hard on the ground.
She was rushed to the hospital, shock blurring her memory, With great skill the health workers did their jobs adroitly. When they reached IRMC she’d come out of shock, The kindly State Trooper was there to take stock Of the damage inflicted, the report on the crash; He took all of her info with professional panache. Thanking God is incumbent for the health of my wife; For an angel rode with her and saved her dear life.
On the evening of November 8, 2014 my wife was in our car, on her way back from visiting her daughter and grandson. She took her eyes off of the road for 2 seconds, to adjust the heat…when she looked up a car with those hideously bright high-beams actually blinded her to oncoming traffic for a few seconds. A coal truck, a monstrously large and heavy dump truck, collided with our car after she strayed across the center line. The two vehicles collided, hitting each other on the front left corners of each…right around her left headlight. The force of the collision sheared off the entire left side of our car, then spinning the car around several times. The floorboard dropped to the roadway, along with the driver’s seat. The impact, and the air bags, knocked Dee to her right…she believes that she was unconscious for a brief spell, after which she felt someone pulling her to her feet and out of the car to the roadway. She remembers a moderate drizzle getting her hair wet and the road shiny. An ambulance had arrived on the scene and the EMT’s strapped her to a stretcher, securing her head so as not to allow the head to move. They took her to Indiana Regional Medical Center’s emergency room. (I should mention that she called me, from the ambulance, and told me she was on the way to the hospital and she needed me. I was nearly hysterical and I don’t even remember calling a taxi to get to her. I arrived at the ER and was ushered into an examination room; I then saw Dee sitting up in bed talking to her older daughter Kelly, a small butterfly bandage on her forehead. I rushed to the other side of the bed and asked her if she was hurt, and if so could I hug her anyway. She said that she felt fine. An attending nurse told me that she was most likely in shock and could not remember the collision. About that time two PA State Police Troopers came in to get her information to file their report on the incident. They spoke briefly to me and it was then that they told me that they had no idea how she had survived the crash. Her only injury was that small scratch on her forehead. The phrase, “…no idea how she had survived…” kept running through my head, making me feel lightheaded. That thought still runs through my head to this day. But really, I have no doubt as to how she had survived. An angel rode with her, and I am forever grateful. An angel rode with her.
