Deceptive Echoes

Deceptive Echoes

A Poem by dan
"

How something so benign as a soft breeze can turn violent, so damaging, so cruel.

"

Deceptive Echoes

Of the many songs in nature’s soundtrack

The sound of leaves softly rustling

Reflect the whispered echoes

Of beauty so rare

Yet fickle in its true intent.

A day with gentle breezes cascading

Through the sky’s reach,

Moving the branches and grass blades

In rhythm to its own steady beat,

A comfort to life and more…

Much more.

When a windy day turns violently inward,

Destruction rules the wayward plan

Reaching for a message

To save us from ourselves,

Awakened by the wind

As it weeps.

I was very intrigued by the tag line. As I read I was minded of the Butterfly effect in chaos theory which kind of states (uber-paraphrasing here) that a butterfly flapping its wings gently on one side of the world could be responsible for hurricane winds on the other side.

This reminds me of the EF5 tornado that struck Moore, Oaklahoma in 2013. I liked the analogy you gave the wind, "as it weeps".

So beautiful, yet as the poem progresses, an underlying sence of danger as we meet up with the power and fickleness of Mother Nature. She can turn on a dime, blowing promises with a gentle breeze, only to trick us with a storm of monumental proportions. Excellent!

Great visual here...this felt good reading, even when it became extremely blustery in the final stanza. Very cool, I like how you have painted this picture with you words.
