A Rush of Thought

A Rush of Thought

A Poem by dan
"

A rather abstract description of the thought process that goes into writing a poem.

"

A Rush of Thought

A seat on the patio.

The songs of the tree frogs.

The smell of the neighbor’s barbecue.

A word.

An artful meme, a stolid vision in time

An open catalog of cheap sensations.

Enveloped by stimuli in formation marching,

Trudging through minefields to reach my fertile mind.

This is what dreams are made of, and how they are lost.

This dazzling display of explosive catch-words

Tinge the tips of my outstretched fingers,

Attempting to grasp what is being given.

A thought. A plan. A poem.

Rising from Stygian fires in my cerebral lobes

Are stitches of fabric to link to each line;

Kicking dust on these fires? An annoyance.

Interrupting the flow.

A thought. A plan. A word.

A poem.

Aloha Dan,

This one speaks to me of distractions that may get in the way of poetic expression. As writers, we tend to view this world from a different lens, you may have just the right word or phrase, but I have found if I don't write it down at that moment, it may be lost forever...

Have you ever experienced this?

"This is what dreams are made of, and how they are lost." How apropos, it's a little ying to the yang, isn't it?

Your descriptives are deleriously insane...
...a stolid vision in time / ...stygian fires in cerebral lobes! If this were morning, there would be no need for me to drink from my coffee cup!

We need to start an admiration society around here...members, two...me and you! ; )

Good stuff...good stuff!

The thought process is similar for a lot of us I think. :)
I hate when I'm struck by something but can't get it down because I'm at work, or haven't got a pencil...
Enjoyed very much. :)
