Feeling Slanted

Feeling Slanted

A Poem by dan
"

You know that feeling you get when you're leaning back in a chair and you start falling backward before catching yourself? I feel that way all the time. Slanted.

Feeling Slanted

I push away things that you tell me are real,

Because you’ll never see what I see, think or feel

If you just knock me down and I’m off of my feet,

I’ll search for the city, so wrong, incomplete.

So where is this haunted concrete jungle planted?

You must tell me right now, while I’m feeling slanted.

Adrift in a sea of forgotten old battles

With gifts always given to the one boy who tattles

One wonders what else is adrift ‘neath this sea,

The sunken old ship that’s a wreckage to see?

So why am I seemingly so disenchanted?

Explain to me now while I’m shattered and slanted.

So far in this world there are good times and worse,

So I ride in the limo in front of the hearse,

One foot on the carpet, one leg out the window

Proving my mettle, how long this has been so.

I run slowly through kingdoms that aren’t so enchanted

I try straight’ning up but I’m so very slanted

Now my whole life’s confession is being recanted,

I’m lost and not credible,

I’m so sickly slanted.
