images

 

restless robins,

sweetly singing “springtime!!”

amusing misty-morning

lovers, laughing

softly, saving secret

furtive feelings;

images imparted.

 

hazy, hissing heat,

troubled temptresses

soulful songs; sun-shrouded

images, inviting

fearless fireflies, finally

nearing nightfall,

summer’s silence.

 

aging autumn angels,

sullen scarecrows;

carnivals, colored calico,

chilling children chasing

intrepid images,

tawdry treats and tricks.

 

brittle, broken

images, icicles in

winter’s wooly wonder;

cold, climbing clouds

of breath, bent and billowing

weakly; whispers to waiting

springtime, “soon!!”

[Falling Leaf.]

A delightful trip through the seasons. This poem brought to me a tremendous feeling of serenity, by the time I was done reading the first stanza I felt like I was on a cloud, or perhaps a petal of a fresh flower, your writing is like a breath of fresh air, simple and innocent, I have a particular attachment to nature, so this was a treat to read. My favorite stanza was the one describing summer. It is my favorite season, so I read and reread it, more and more delighted as my eyes traveled across the words. Thank you for sharing the delightful poetry.

The alliteration works well, love the way you capture a mood for each of the seasons.

Gosh Riki, this is nothing short of fabulous! I love how you wrote this...the format is SO impressive, as is the poet!

If I had to pick a favorite stanza, I couldn't...your lines are just mind-blowing in their description of each season. Did I say "wow" yet...wow!

Kelly, I must admit this is one of my own favorites. I wrote it for a literary magazine created by my creative writing course in my freshman year of college at IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania), which I started very late in my life. (I turned 40 in the middle of my freshman year and graduated in the year 2000) I won an award for it (which I have no idea where it is now). I'm happy that you liked it.
