Tea For One

Tea For One

A Poem by Rie Sheridan Rose
"

this came to me when I saw a vanity plate go by one day...

"

I'll wait no more for romance.

It isn't worth the price.

I'll sell my soul for no one,

despite the world's advice.

And you may think me lonely,

as I sit at tea for one,

but I wrap myself in satin,

and I cater to no one.

Sometimes I'll take a lover

should I feel the need for spice

but I'll give my key to no one

for Love rolls loaded dice.

And when the world winds down at last

and I decide that will suffice,

I'll sleep in peaceful silence,

my heart encased in ice...

I forgot how well you craft words, Rie. I'm truly pleased to find you still in the Writer's Cafe, continuing to hone your talent, and generously share your poetry. It's good to set my eyes on your words again.

And it's good to be back.

I can definitely see this as a song, albeit a melancholy one. There was a very dry five year period after the divorce from my first wife that I remember thinking along these same lines you express here. "Love rolls loaded dice"--boy, ain't that the truth!

Sad is a story once told twice but this is the lonelyness we all have had just once. Great write and wonderful read.

oh I can totally hear this as a song!!! I love this. It stands tall and spits in the face of conformity. Truly, there is a comforting solace in having to answer to no one. shhhh..,. don't tell anyone... but sometimes... (looks around) .... I miss my tea for one. Excellent write.
