1A Chapter by Rieja Thorn
Jenna Sparks woke up to the redundant droning of her alarm clock. She slammed the snooze button and rolled over in bed, she didn't want to go to work. It was Saturday and as far as she could see Saturdays were invented for breaks form work.
nevertheless she got up and trudged over to the shower. " morning mum, " Jenna said as she half ran half flew down the stairs "Jenna! " she screamed " you're going to be late. Hurry up and eat " she smiled, and obediently sat down, and ate the toast and eggs her mum had given her. Jenna loved her mum she really did, but she always felt trapped and sheltered in their little house in the suburbs. She felt like there was more to life than just going to work to save up for college. But she did give me comfort when I was being bullied. in fact she even remembered when she was a kid and even though her dad died she held the family together, but despite all this Jenna Sparks felt disconnected from the world. And you could say that deep down inside her she knew there was something greater in store for her. "Hello, Earth to Jenna! Earth to Jenna! " "What " Jenna said in a dazed voice " My goodness Jenna" mum said breathlessly " you're gonna be late for work... no" she said looking at her watch " you are late for work! Go" oops thought Jenna not again and with that thought she got up grabbed the keys got into the car and drove of to work. for what felt like the billionth time. *************************************************************************************************************** As Jenna pulled into the parking lot she knew she was in trouble. Parker her boss was standing on the curb smoking, and the putrid smell of his cigarettes was not helping his ill tempered displeased aura. While Jenna was walking over to Mr. Parker she fretted she hadn't meant to be late on purpose, but she had been late before and her heart wasn't into her job any more. She always found her mind wandering. when you read the biography of someone highly successful it wasn't like they ever were waitresses in some rural down town coffee shop it just didn't happen. sorry Parker she said trying to not make eye contact. she took the liberty to glimpse up at her boss and regretted it almost immediately his eyes were like fire boring into her soul. " Jenna " he said in a really serious voice, " I know you're trying but you're bad for business you can't just run around giving people the wrong orders and forgetting to make them pay." As Parker was saying this Jenna knew she was getting the pre-firing talk. She knew that because she had it before when she was a secretary for an accountant for the city garbage department. The boring drawl of every day life only having one or two people come everyday didn't appease her appetite for adventure. And now it was happening here with the waitress job. got stuck in a rut, got bored, and stopped caring. " Jenna you know I'm going to have to fire you" Parker said " it's just the facts of life don't do well on a job you get fired tha..." " I understand" interrupted Jenna. And with out looking back she turned around got into her car and drove off. © 2010 Rieja ThornReviews
