Addiction

Addiction

A Poem by Antonio Valentino
"

Inspired by Dani California's poem, "Internet Blues."

"

I never really did care much for puzzles

Trying to fit odd shaped bits and pieces together
To make,
a picture
how fun is that, not

There’s always that piece or two
You can’t find

Or the one that's, almost right
That you try to cram into the space
Because you’re too lazy to find the
Right one

(Hey, kind of like life)

Or the one the cat played with like a mouse
And kept chewing on and now it has cat spit
All over it
Yechh!

I’m here to tell you
It’s quite the ordeal!

I would rather write,
Instead

I just love trying to fit different kinds of words together

So many funny little letters
So many, different combinations
So many, various thoughts
Just waiting,
to be born
To be articulated

To make, hmmm

A picture?

Oh?!
I guess that’s the biggest puzzle
Of all isn’t it
Snap!

Never mind

I don’t feel right if I don’t write
It’s just a part of who I am I guess
And in fact, whether or not I’m any
Good at it, it’s a pretty darn big part
Of who I am

I get up every morning five days a week
And my time belongs to my job
But even when I’m there
My heart belongs
to my heart’s desire

There’s always this damn little voice in my head
Telling me, go write that, go write, that
Go write that, you slack eyed and silly fool!

For the most part, it feels like it’s beyond
My control
It’s beyond my power
And I just can’t stop it
(I know, too bad for you guys huh)

Maybe it’s a part of immortality
To live on
To leave something behind
So we don’t vanish completely
From the earth
Taking a fleeting thought
And transforming it somehow,
Making it, a piece of life
Turning it into even a small part
Of someone’s psyche

And like the ripples from a drop
In the ocean

A tiny portion,
Of the human spirit

To only just take someone’s mind
Off their troubles
If for even a brief moment
And maybe, just maybe
Give them a laugh
A tear
A smile
Or,
A small sliver,
Of hope

Well than
That’s a good thing
Write?

Words weaved together
Into coherent thoughts
Have a life of their own

They breathe
They reach out
They comfort
They give
They hold our hands
They inspire

We foolishly think that we control
How our writing will make others feel
But we don’t

And that’s the fun part

Every reader finds a
Different meaning
A different nuance
That they pull out of it

And so most of the time
We don’t really even know
What we’re writing, exactly

We are basically creating reasons
For people to think
And, to feel

Changing lives in small ways
One word at a time

People often say, "I write for myself."
Really?
Than why are you posting your writing in public forum for the entire world to see?
Interesting.

We're here to share, to connect,
And to be, relevant.

The Writer's Cafe,
is worse, than crack

My name is Writer,
And I am a Wordaholic

And I just can’t say no

It’s a blessing
And it’s a curse

It’s just part of
My strife

Yes,
I’m an addict
And that’s okay

I’m addicted,

To life

"WoooooooooW!" again. i like this one too. You write in a original fashion , and this one has it all: depth, humor, thought, i found myself nodding my head many times at your clever words. when i first started reading it i thought i was reading about a puzzle, how you never truly find that "right one" when it comes to relationships. but then, as i read on, you talk about reviews, cafe, life, poetry, very random, but never forced, flows naturally from your mind.....

"I get up every morning five days a weekAnd my time belongs to my jobBut even when I'm thereMy heart belongs to my heart's desire" (i agree with you. life is so mundande sometimes, and all i want to do is go home and write lately)

"To only just take someone's mind Off their troublesIf for even a brief momentAnd maybe, just maybeGive them a laughA tearA smileOr,A small sliver,Of hope Well thanThat's a good thingWrite?"

(i agree too. i write here because i love sharing my material with others. making others happy, enjoying your writing, being able to express myself, through a healthy form, is better than money...to me...well....maybe not that good, but almost. hee hee)

What a delightful piece. You made me smile. :)

I really liked this particular stanza a lot:

'Maybe it's a part of immortality
To live on
To leave something behind
So we don't vanish completely
From the earth
Taking a fleeting thought
And transforming it somehow,
Making it, a piece of life
Turning it into even a small part
Of someone's psyche'

I'm addicted to writing too. If I don't write every day, I just don't feel complete no matter what else I've accomplished. Writing is my bliss!

Great poem, thanks for sharing!

Hehe it's true, we are compelled to write, why is that? It seems like we have to create, express get something out of ourselves and you are right, it is like an addiction because there is that high that comes when you finish a piece

The Writer's Cafe,
is worse, than crack

My name is Writer,
And I am a Wordaholic

This really brought a smile to my face, I totally relate so your words did their job. Hey pass me the pen :)

This is very good. I agree; writing is a passion of mine too. I love the way you jump and compare writing to these different things, and talk about how that's all you want to do. Very descriptive; your words flow together so well. Very well-written!!
