Children of the Old Moses School in Chase, MarylandA Story by Richard LaneToday I confess my love for the learning of history and I happily refer to the people featured in the photo as Guardian Angels because I made the point of saying prayers whenever I have walked past the church during the four years in which I have been living since June of 2008 and one day this past July during the 110 degree heatwave after hearing the news which I ignored thinking I was only going to be out of the house for two hours. I was heading for the store to buy groceries because I like to cook (which is a story for another day), and on my way back I realized I had made a mistake when my eyes were stinging from the sweat that began on my forehead and by passed my sunglasses. And to make matters worse, I was carrying four bags which had several items and as I walking I said a small prayer in hopes that someone driving a car would stop to pick me up and take me home so I could feed my Cat and myself while my Father was still in the hospital in July and was under observation for signs of a possible stroke and other issues. But I didn't think my prayers would be answered and I continued to head for home until my legs were beginning to give into the pressure to fall onto the ground. But then a older gentleman who was driving past me took a left turn into the parking lot that is now located behind the church after the roof and the wooden structure that had collapsed after being struck by lightning during a particularly severe thunderstorm in 2009 (which unfortunately is not an uncommon occurance in my neck of the coastal area of the county I live in), were removed because of the hazardous material that was left after the total destruction which also lead to the closing up of the church which still has the old bell attached to the top of the Church and then the older gentleman headed in my direction which was on the otherside of the street and still more than a few minutes from that church and he stopped to pick me up and I made it back home. However my journey back home left me eand wiped out but before I drank my first glass of water I thanked the spirits of the people who built that church exhausted and I nearly fainted right where I was standing in the kitchen. But my experience did not keep me from praying on behalf of those souls who I felt were actually listening and by the grace of luck I was saved from being the focus of the news because I didn't heed the warning on the Weather Channel. © 2012 Richard LaneAuthor's Note
