If The Poem Iam

If The Poem Iam

A Poem by Richard Lane

suddenly i am in the mood for an
entirely
different
kind of song,
with slow and steady beats,
backed up,
by
a loud guitar chord,
and mixed together
with the high wire
sound of a theremin,
replacing
the human voice
as the deliverer
of the universal
message
of healing
through the power
of the spoken
word
in concert
with the rhythms
of the bass
and drums
and like i said,
i am in that frame of mind,
where
i can write almost
anything
and i prefer
now to delve into the
surreal
and lyrical
edges of the literary
spectrum
because i find
the combination
of music
in harmony with the voice
reading their words
as spoken or even sung
either on the billiard table of
dive bar downtown
somewhere
in the middle of this lifetime
