A Poem by Richard Lane

a cry for help is a cry for help

no matter who it comes from

or what form the message

for help will be sent,

and from my experience as a caregiver

and a friend and a family member it is

always best to respond to

the call for help made by

a loved one, or a friend

or a lover, or a family

member no matter if your

the sister or brother of a

different mother

it's so much better to respond

even when something is

not wrong with those we love

instead of feeling the guilt of

ignoring the call for help

hoping the danger will pass

because the guilt of not

acting soon enough will

stay with you and you

will say I wish I could have...

I wish I could have,

I wish I could have...

for the rest of your life

Thank you, Richard. This is a great lesson that sadly, not many people learn, before it is too late. As I always say, "pain is pain". A cry for help is a cry for help. We should always have our listening ears on. Thank you for a display of empathy. It is what every human should strive for. Nicely done, my friend.

I had a great aunt who taught me the lesson of this when I was very young~ she said "The greatest sins in the world are sins of omission, when we choose not to act where action is needed."
thank you for reminding me of her wisdom and that crucial lesson through the shape of your poem~
