Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball

A Story by Richard Lane

Whenever a friend or a family member or loved one I haven't talked to or seen in years has either been injured or has died I often have this weird feeling that something has gone wrong. I try to pass the feeling off as part of a headache I was having that day, or maybe I haven't eaten something or perhaps it was the result of me trying to walk up the winding staircase of the first Washington Monument in Baltimore, MD as I did in 2003 during the Baltimore Book Fest.
The only level I was able to reach was the second level and I turned around and left via the exit door. A friend of mine who I had been having a normal conversation with not even ten minutes before was bewildered when she noticed I was breathing heavier than I was earlier.
But that event is a story yet to be written but I was talking with my Mother at the house I used to live in on the 500 block of Hammershire Road in the Reisterstown/Owings Mills area of Maryland.
For some reason I had a feeling that Lucy was ready to pass away. But again I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to come to any undue conclusions. But eventually I got over the news because I thought there was nothing i could have. "Hell she wouldn't even know who I was. I'm not even related to her and if I did show up, I'd probably be escorted from the building by the police." Because seriously I prefer to let those people who are famous for one thing or the other live their lives. They have work and so do I.
So imagine my shock when my 57 year old Brother Robert showed me the papers he found that lead him to the family list that finally helped me and the rest of my Family figure out where both of there Families came from. My Grandfather Frank and Grandmother Cora K. Eckels Lane were listed on  In my family tree there are alot of people with names you might recognize. However I will spare that detail for now. But two of the names listed in my Family tree were Lucille Ball and her Husband Dezi Arnaz. It turns out they are ninth generation relatives of my Grandmother Cora

this is really fascinating family history Richard....i remember all the 'I love Lucy' shows which were televised here in the UK during the 1980s , she was a pioneer for female comedians, frightfully engaging and a big big star. Thanks
