A Thousand Digits On A HandA Poem by Rich AlloHow many fingers do we need to count all our anxieties? An uncontrollable fluster Is the bluebottle in cream, The straggling horse of the harras, The toothpick of the sea, The bramble in my pelvis, And its twisting barb to squeeze, The javelin in my armour, Can’t possibly breathe to please, To tally all my problems, And record all my concerns, I would need a thousand digits on a hand, To retain my precious dignity, To rebuild my rich city, I’d need a couple of hundred at the least, A thousand digits on a hand, Distress and frantic worry, Ain’t the answer or the clue, Anguish and tormenting fears Jeopardy, ain’t worth the use, A battle axe to the grind, When I’m busy as a bee, Genetic doubts; my vocation Apples never fall far from trees! To tally all my problems, And record all my concerns, I would need a thousand digits on a hand, To retain my precious dignity, To rebuild my rich city, I’d need a couple of hundred at the least, A thousand digits on a hand, Five fingers; no friendship, Just to put your heart at ease, To calculate monstrosities, I need a thousand if you please! To tally all my problems, And record all my concerns, I would need a thousand digits on a hand, To retain my precious dignity, To rebuild my rich city, I’d need a couple of hundred at the least, A thousand digits on a hand. Beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, So I’m told it is, Beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, So I’m told it is, Do you believe it? Cos’ what you can’t believe you cannot see, And what you cannot see you can’t believe. © 2015 Rich Allo |
