LateA Poem by Rich AlloA dramatic monologue, involving the themes of relationship and betrayal. You're late, so late, So much for a special date, You've mad me mad, my heart’s a tad So thundering through my chest, You're late, you're late Warm feelings freeze to slate, And irritation, Inspires separation, So twisted, filled with hate, You're there, you're there, Although I have no care, You stand and smile for a short time awhile, Whilst presenting to some bear, Who thrives on luck, his eyes adjust To below his respectful watch, You're mere, so disloyal, You cannot return the sweet, The happiness, the cherished, all mountainous in shape, That I applied as a treat, And now you're nothing, a mere speck, A dot in a thousand miles, A vulnerable little flounder, you are, Kicking out against the tiles, I couldn't give a toss, for it appears you've a loss, One so just and doesn't affect me, For my eyes are so wide and focusing now, Upon all the other flounders in the sea, And searching, and searching, Beyond all of your fins, You've seen my behind, Your jealous breath begins. An early start's in stead for me, No matter what shapes of hate, For you're the one whose complexity's failing, For you're the one whose late. © 2015 Rich Allo |
