Unopened Presents

Unopened Presents

A Poem by Kris
"

This is a short piece I wrote on Christmas as I remembered the tragedy in Newtown, CT.

"

There's a smile on my face

and my laughter is erratic

but inside my heart is hurting

and my mind is full of static

All the cherubic faces

smiling down today

on Newtown of all places

as the carols begin to play.

Their families are mourning.

The unopened presents reminding them of the graves they'll be adorning

with wreaths and decorations

and many Christmas creations.

I may not have known them

but you must know I care

as I slowly dress festively

from my toes to my hair.

I may not have met them

but there are many that I know

that will greet them with open arms

and help make heaven Home.

thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of writing with us. It is heartbreaking, but you managed you create something pure out of this tragedy. I find it difficult to write on current events, but you did it with respect and compassion. Well done.
