My Way

My Way

A Poem by Mariah Lynn Thompson

This obstacle is not in my way
Instead it is part of my way
Part of my path, part of my life
It's a lesson to learn, not my strife

It's a weight to lift, so I am stronger
It's not a place I can stay any longer
I'm leaving now, away from the dark
I've tied up the ends; now to the start

The start to a life full of peace
I'm too strong now for my path to cease
I've quite a ways to go and more monsters to defeat
The going is fast; the going is slow
But happiness I do meet

In between the hardships and the pain
I know that I can smile again
For on my path are not just tests
But the opportunity to be my best

And beside me walks my spirit guide
Ensuring me there's no need to hide
She whispers in my ear, so sweet,
"True peace and happiness, you will meet."
