Tattered thread

Tattered thread

A Poem by Mariah Lynn Thompson

The pain is in knowing
That you'll never see it
You'll never see the way I look at you
Oh, your friends may tell you later but you'll pay them no mind

The pain is in knowing
That you'll never feel it
I've given you my heart but you won't accept it.
You'll never feel my unconditional love for you, because you won't try

The pain is in knowing
That I'll never understand
That I feel as if I shouldn't touch you
I fear you think I want to marry you but in not the marrying kind

The pain is in not knowing
What it is you are afraid of
Or if it's all a silly game you're playing with me
You act fond of me, but are so bitterly far away

The pain is in my constant wishing
That some day you'll see, someday you'll feel
I would sacrifice my ears to hear the words come from your mouth just once

The pain is in not communicating
It's like you feel nothing and you're not much of a talker
At least when it comes to serious subjects

But this is a serious subject
It is my heart you toy with
I know I should let you go, but there's this disgusting thing called hope
It's a tattered thread we all hang on to in life

You hold my thread
And you're not gripping it very tightly
I fear I might fall
But, this could be better than the pain
