Merry-Go-Round

Merry-Go-Round

A Poem by Mariah Lynn Thompson

Put your hand on my chest
Feel my heart beating at its best
No, I won't remember this
Twenty years from now
I won't remember how
Many times I've been through this
Some things never change
Second chances, it's always the same
Old game we've played for years now
I don't see a point to this anymore
We've got to end it, I'm done keeping score
We're spinning around in circles
Like we're on a merry-go-round
We're like a broken record
I can't stand the sound
I'm trying so hard to make this work but it's not worth it
I'm so sick of getting hurt
You're like a drug, like heroin
I keep coming back for more
I'm trying to fight you away
My muscles are getting sore
I don't see a point to this anymore
We've got to end it, I'm done keeping score
I wish I didn't have to say goodbye
I can't count how many times I've tried
We're spinning around in circles
Like we're on a merry-go-round
We're like a broken record
I can't stand the sound
I'm trying so hard to make this work but it's not worth it
I'm so sick of getting hurt

Love the analogy of the merry-go-round. Captures the feeling perfectly. 'We're spinning around in circles'. Honest, raw, ending. An all around great write.
