ThemA Poem by Rhys MarchantIts a poem about living in the shadows of who you are rather than 'who' you are, and how that affects they way people see you. Especially loved ones. Why
should a curse by birth haunt my living days? For
simply being born into my predecessors ways? For
‘their’ hair looks like mine! And
‘Their’ bodies look like mine! But
their minds are not! So
bound by looks I am? But
it does not make me ‘them’. For
cant you see, I
don’t want to be like ‘them’ I
just wanted you. I
just wanted you to curl up next to under bed sheets at night, And
to see your face at the first break of light. Then
to kiss your lips and say, hello And
to tell you I love you in case you didn’t know. But
like a dream, it faded away. Into
nothing more than I lonely day. Just
because I was born a man. And you did not see I was not ‘them’ © 2011 Rhys Marchant |
