Why Were You The One?

Why Were You The One?

A Poem by Aehr

If my tears were really so precious to you

Why were you the one to make them fall?

If my happiness was really so important

Why were you the one to take it all?

If every little thing I ever said meant so much

Why were you the one to not understand?

When I needed help to rise again

Where was your helping hand?

If you found everything about me beautiful

Why were you the one who gave me scars?

If you meant it when you said you’ll never hurt me

Why were you the one to burn me like the stars?

If my eyes were really so breath-taking,

Why were you the one who made them want to close?

If you really meant it when you said you’ll protect me,

Why were you the one responsible for my bleeding nose?

Is that what I always was?

A little toy for the fun of keeping

Did you like it when you hurt me,

Did you feel victorious when you saw me weeping?

I can’t believe that you really did this to me

Baby, I thought you called me your doll

If my tears were really so precious to you

Why were you the one to make them fall?

-this is such a beautiful poem, so raw and intense and full of emotion. it is really sad though that the one person who can make you so happy is the exact same person who has the power to make you sad. i really enjoyed reading this one and i love the fact that you put it in a way whereby you question all the good intentions the person had and how they were int turn reflected by a bad action instead, very well written.

The feeling of pain, sadness, betrayal, everything comes out beautifully in this poem. A touching piece, really.

I can feel your pain in this poem. Truthful write.

Sad, depressed, dark, emotional, truthful. I like the flow and rhyme. It's like you're being used by someone who you love, and thought that person loves you. I love it. Thanks for sharing. :D

Dark and sad, with the song of innocence behind the words. I feel the pain in the poem, and the characters longing for justice and hope...

Well done

If its pain then its not love. why is that such a hard lesson for us to learn sometimes. I suppose its because love is blind to truth - or at least the strong emotions we think are love.
This is a strong well penned poem

Great piece written... I love the feel of deep emotion expressed in every line of the poem... indeed, it hurts to feel 'used' and unloved by people you want to give your all. i also love your interesting sense of rhyme... Good write. :)

This is sublime... I absolutely love this. Your ability to capture me before I'd even finished, the simplistic nature but yet such complexity of emotions and memory.

And again it's really impressive how you really hit home the emotion with the recycling of wording. terrific work

Such a sad reality that those we love are the ones who can hurt us the most. A heartfelt piece, Rhea.
