Now That I'm Walking Away

Now That I'm Walking Away

A Poem by Aehr

So I guess this is what I get,
This is where it ends
You thought you'll make it okay
By saying 'let's just be friends'

But you didn't, darling
You made it all worse
You made every minute hell
And ever second a curse

Every single step now
Feels longer than a mile
Every place that I went
I had to have on a fake smile

I know it's never easy
And that it's never going to be
I have chains pulling me back
Even though I'm supposedly free

I guess I'll have to smile now
Even through the darkest of storms
Because for you, all of my life
Has suddenly lost its norms

But honey, don't you forget one thing
With a bleeding heart, I'm walking away
You may regret feeling for me now, but
I won't be coming back, now that I'm walking away
