A Piece Still RemainsA Poem by AehrThe world
says it’s over, but it’s a million against one I believe
that it’s not really completely done I believe
that there’s a part of it that’s not been shut That a piece
still lives, and all the strings have not been cut Because a
weak one still holds my heart to the past To the year
that challenged me to see if I would last To the year
of new friendships, new dreams, and goals The year
which had a gist of what my future really holds Now that it
has ended, a little piece still remains As each and
every memory is still fresh in my veins A peculiar
sorrow burns my soul to nothing but ashes now And the
leftover piece pulls me back to the past, somehow And a piece
of my soul just seems to be torn apart Oh! This
suffering of my fragile little heart Tangled
feelings don’t seem to perish and die And that
fragment of the past year makes me want to cry So much time
wasted, and so much energy gone I used it in
hating that year all along But now I
repent, because it’s never coming back It’ll take a
while for me to get back on track © 2013 AehrAuthor's Note
