Leaving

Leaving

A Poem by Aehr

My lucky shirt tucked in my bag
And a crumpled set of notes
Mary gifted me a pack of cards
And a book on motivational quotes

My teachers say that they'll miss me
And the jokes that I made in class
Brittle memories threatening to fall
And break into pieces like glass

My lover knows I'm going
He says that he'll follow me out
I'll never forget our times together
I'll really miss him a lot

I'm drowning in my packed bags
A sinking feel comes creeping in
The first time I'm leaving on my own
Leaving without my friends or kin

My lucky shirt in my bag
Miserable is what it is
But then my lover comes around,
And delights me with a kiss

Small town girl leaving home
A minute ago, alone
But now her lover's at her side
And they're walking out the door

Nicely written, sad and romantic

though i have never experienced leaving but your poem created a panorama of me leaving doing all this. Gravely worked upon. Leaving beloved pains more than death. it is clearly depicted. Good work.
