Two Roads...

Two Roads...

A Poem by Aehr

Two roads diverged in a black wood
Robert Frost travelled this way long ago
For hours and hours and hours I stood
Staring at the now-black barks in the wood
And the tiny springing grass, lifeless because of snow

The first road was thorny, the vision blurred
The second one was cold, and overgrown
I stood like a statue, for an hour, not saying a word
The heavy load on my back was now seeming absurd
I was cold, confused, very scared and alone

Next morning, the black leaves spread before me on the road
I couldn't make out which was more worn down
So I was ready enough to lighten my load
The projection of the idea my mind showed
The enlightening dream which broke with the break of dawn

The area where the roads diverged
Fearless, I walk between the two ways
I walk into another path, as the trees merged
When I looked back, the trees had disappeared
And slided to the sides with grace

Can't choose a way?
Make your own path
Make your own way

Where there is a will, there is a way...

This is NOT a copy of the poem 'The Road Not Taken' by Robert Frost, it is very deeply inspired by it. And, this is DEFINITELY NOT a parody of that poem AT ALL. Robert Frost is one of my favorite poets, and 'The Road Not Taken' is one of my favorite works. It's just about what I would do, if I was in Robert Frost's place.

It's in the ABAAB format, which I've tried for the first time, so if it's not upto your standards: please review it accordingly. lol.

You have rendered me speechless.

This. was. freaking. brilliant! "The Road Not Taken" is one of my all-time favourite poems (you probably know it, since my poem I See, They See also drew inspiration from the same) and I love how you gave your own meaning to "the road not taken." The last two stanzas... oh, forget it. I'll just make do with a *standing ovation*

You, my dear, have earned my permanent respect! Love this poem, love ya!

thanks Zainab, really means a lot :)
Fantastic Idea! Excellent dedication to Robert Frost And no way can this be a parody, because it shows the way of mankind as they exist now, make paths where there don't exist the ones you like (which can be viewed both as good or bad), I like the postscript to the poem as well. But Rhea, it depends on situation and perception as to what path you chose, slash and burn do not work all the time.

an excellent poetic feel .. that's what i got after completing the read ..
the way the abstract was carved in words ... wonderful
and the abaab rhyming added a further tinge to the literary workmanship ..
well done .. :)

I like the wisdom in the poem. Good to travel a new road. May found something special and different. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

Inspiration from a great poet's great poem is so very visible in your work ! I loved the idea of choosing your own path, the third path when there are two, felt nice. The last 4 lines summed up the idea very well and the swaying away of the trees felt so lively ! Awesome :)

This is nice! I like the idea of making your own path and not just accepting the choices others/life gives you. Nice write!
