Early Morning Sounds

Early Morning Sounds

A Story by Aehr

Every evening after dinner and after all the hectic day in school the only thought I have in mind is to have a good, deep sleep for about 8 " 9 hours. And so it does happen that I have a good sleep with maybe a dream or two every night. But that is every night. Not in the mornings at about 5:30 or 5:45.

There are so many sounds which disturb our sleep in the early morning hours like the milk man’s horn, the barking of our pet dogs, the door bell rung by the newspaper man… the list is endless. Different people have different types of sleeps. Some people sleep very light and wake up immediately even if they hear a little creak of a door in the other room while some people sleep very deep and only if the utensils in the kitchen crash on the floor with a loud bang will they wake up.

Every morning (especially winter mornings), when I hear the c**k crow, when I hear the morning news on the television and also when I hear the cooker whistle on the gas I wake up, try to ignore the noise and pop back into bed. Other than these, the noise of my sister screaming, my dog barking, the vehicles running, my lunch for school getting cooked in the morning and even the sound of the opening and closing of the kitchen drawers irritate my sleep in the morning. But there is one sound in the morning which is quite loud but very pleasant and comforting.

It’s my mother’s sound telling me to wake up. I know very well the sounds when my mom enters the room. She comes in and I hear the sound of the spoon tingling in my milk glass and I hear the ‘tick’ of the tube light too. Then I hear her sound to wake me up. And when I get up rubbing my eyes and see her bright and smiling face, I forget about all the early morning sounds and think that she has made my day. So I get ready for the beautiful day ahead.

Wrote this in 5th grade. Something I wrote just for my Mom - she's the best!!! :) Please review according to how you'll review it for a 5th grader. :P Brings back old memories! I know, I got a little off track somewhere in the middle, but hey!! I was in 5th!! (I blame it all on that :P)
