What Are They

What Are They

A Poem by Rhea752

What are words to you
The sounds that blurt from a person's mouth
The inky shapes on a printed page
Or do they hold meaning
Ask yourself again
What are words
The carriers of our culture
The building blocks of our civilization
The very thing that defines us
The remembrance of the past
And the embracing of the present
The longing for something better
And the foreboding of something worse
A world hidden out of sight
And the truth written plainly before our eyes
Words words words words words
Floating all around us
We think we have one clear cut definition
But words are extremely complex
We never know what they'll do next
