The Cost

A girl's brother dies. The girl feels that it is the family's fault he died. She goes insane and "pays the cost"

Wrath fills her heart 

And her mind 

Tearing her apart 

Sorrow underneath 

Rage accented 

By grief 

My brother lost 

Not my fault 

They need to pay the cost

The parents sleep 

Unaware of the terror 

Their daughter will soon reap 

My brother lost

She is a shell 

Her soul gone 

When her brother fell

She grabbed a knife 

Her hand prepared 

To take a life

She plunged the blade

Which was followed by a cry

The chant of "pay the cost" reminds me of a sacrificial offering. Which is the perfect imagery for this poem. I love the darkness of this poem. Well done, my dear.

This is an amazing poem, dark, but amazing. The repetition of the "pay the cost" eluded to something bigger was going to happen and you did just that. In the end it seems like everyone payed the cost, with life or sanity
