Eyes of a Devil (2000)

Poem I wrote back in 2000

Staring at a sky full of dust so hollow.
Matching eyes of shadow that has to follow.
A mother's cry over guns so loud.
And a child's sadness for not having their father around.
This is what I see through the eyes of a devil.
A mother's struggle of having to raise two kids.
And a boys heartache for having to bury another one of this friends.
This is what I see through the eyes of a devil.
Having to go through life on welfare.
Wondering who in this world cares.
That people fight every day to make ends meet.
Seeing life's lost wondering, why they have to get back on their feet.
This is what I see through the eyes of a devil.
A parents drug bust were their whole life is turned.
To their child's closed casket where there is no one left to mourn.
