Best you can see

Best you can see

A Poem by G?

As young men we bravely face the storm
Thunder in young men's fists
Conspire to assert their own embrace
No love there, complicit in their group is the norm

Life moves quickly, soon a family man
Fear of failure motivates
Yet endeavor to complete the span
That gap of love and lust and fear and hate

Later years we reflect, often obsessively
What our lives could or should by judgement be
What measure of man can attest to time
Than perhaps his recollections might mirror mine

Success is fleeting, pride is shallow
Aspirations of divinity, although attractive
Seem ultimately implausible
What's left friend? You may ask in this moment

Aspire, no matter how humbling it may be
To be the very best instantiation
Of the image in the mirror
That you frequently see
