What Sandy Dumped on Me

The full moon and the high tide, the wind and  rain that struck the earth like stones, conspirators all. So much of my city was dark and afloat. We ignored the curfews, and we splashed around the yellow ribbons to escape.

The Garden State will never be the same. “Going down the shore,” the white-hot sands at Seaside Heights. Pulling taffy on the boards. Sneaking cigarettes outside the penny arcade. We rode the waves on inner tubes, tumbling in the surf. The white-hot sand, the Barnegat Bay. The summer house in Ortley Beach...

These things which shaped my childhood are gone, as the Roller coaster drifts like a death ship out to sea.

I am still healing, a day at a time. There is an outreach program in my community , and I will take advantage of that, because each time I think of the pain and the flooded hospitals tears still fill my eyes.

I felt the emotion in this. I drove down the Garden State the other day and couldn't help but observe and think what Sandy did to Jersey.
