The River Keeps Flowing (for Rebekah and Justin)

The River Keeps Flowing (for Rebekah and Justin)

A Poem by Robert Filos

Sitting down by the flowing black water

casting my unspoken words above
and watching the joy of my daughter
flying up the bank below like a dove

Moss clinging to an old bald cypress
as orange rays ripple, breaking silence
a blue heron lashes, snaring a small fish
a world of hope extending to the horizon

As the scent of wisteria wings on by
and the moon in daylight begins it's rise
a white hole tattooed in the big blue sky
wedding-day, a fathers joy is no surprise

The Willows shadow is now calling us home
both want to stay, here's where we belong
but as an owl hoots, and the catfish roam
we leave, next dance, her wedding song
