A Poem by Nick Reynolds
"

For the contest

"

Who knows what happens

In the darkness of the shadows

What can we do to prevent

The unforgiving dreams

We walk along in silence

As the shadowed rain falls

A man approaches swiftly

As our protections cascade down

And all along I felt

As tender as a crystal

Ready to be shattered

Blood pools on the ground

In the billowing silence

The sirens are not present

As a river wipes it away

The sadness that is not felt

Through the hearts across the nation

When they hear the faint announcement

Of the inconsequential death

And all along I felt

As tender as a crystal

Ready to be shattered
